Johnathan Joseph (DJ Spoony) has been broadcasting since 1994 as the third member of the The Dreem Teem - a trio consisting of DJ Spoony, Mikee B, and Timmi Magic. In January 2000, the Dreem Teem joined Radio 1 and held the Sunday brunch-time slot until 2003.

Passionate about both music and football, Johnathan hosted BBC 5live ‘606’ and Radio 1’s Weekend Breakfast between 2003 and 2010. Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and David Beckham feature amongst those he interviewed. The Sir Alex Ferguson BBC documentary came after an eight year hiatus of Sir Alex speaking to the BBC.

In 2014, Johnathan started presenting for the Premier League, broadcasting to over 200 million viewers a week. Last year, he was seen interviewing some of the biggest names form the football industry on the red carpet of the Premier League Hall of Fame inductee ceremony. Johnathan also regularly deps on BBC Radio 2. In 2021, he joined the Amazon Prime Football team as a pitch side reporter and pundit.

As well as appearing on various TV shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, The Weakest Link, Mastermind and Pointless to name a few, Johnathan has been a co-host at the annual Professional Footballers Association dinner for the last two years, as well as many other corporate events.

Outside of the sports scene, Spoony is committed as an active DJ in both the UK and Ibiza club scene, DJ’ing for the likes of Selfridges, BT, Nike, Harvey Nichols and Samsung. In the last couple of years, Johnathan has taken on many DJ projects, bringing his favourite music to the nation through different platforms. One of Jonathan’s projects included ‘Garage Classical’, a 36 Piece orchestra performing UK Garage hits, which has seen him sell out The Royal Albert Hall.

During the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020, more than one million of us tuned into Spoony’s House stream every Friday, Saturday and Sunday for 10 solid weeks. The 100 hours of Garage, Club Classics, Disco and Soul and R&B raised over £20,000 for the NHS. After the success of this, Spoony started three shows on Twitch TV, mixing his love of reggae classics, with global soulful music whilst finishing the week with his request show where listeners chose the tunes for the hour.

In 2022, DJ Spoony started covering BBC Radio 2, The Good Groove on a 4 week basis, until it later returened as his own show which he hosts every Saturday night (9pm-11pm). Jonathan’s latest project includes his live music night’s, The Soul kitchen, in Brixton, that showcases the newest UK soul talent with a full live band.

A special highlight from DJ Spoony’s 2022 projects and one he was extremely passionate to host, was A Quincy Jones Special, Forty Thousand Years of Funk, on BBC Radio 2, in early December, dedicated to looking back on the legendary career of Quincy Jones, where he was joined by special guests that included Craig David and other talented names. Be sure to look at DJ Spoony’s ultimate garage playlist, UK Garage Classics on Spotify which he created just before the new year.

Looking forward to 2023, he is set to host the UK Garage All Stars tour which travels to 5 cities across the country whilst he has an exciting summer planned, performing at the Pub in the Park festival at Wimbledon & Leamington Spa.

As well as his love for music, Jonathan also enjoys walking his furry child, Prince Apollo, with his partner, or teeing off on the golf course in his spare time.

‘Im delighted to be a part of the Tongue Tied team. I’ve watched the company grow over the years and taken great care of their clients, many of which are my friends. The are vibrant, fun and know their ‘stuff’.’
