Jason Roberts to join Diversity Action Group for BBC

Former footballer Jason Roberts has been selected to advise and support the BBC on diversity as it promises to increase the on and off screen representation of the Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) community.

Jason will join fellow committee members Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Lenny Henry CBE, Nihal, Tanya Motie, Daniel Oudkerk QC, George Mpanga and Baroness Floella Benjamin OBE and the panel will be chaired by BBC Director General Tony Hall.

The BBC have also announced a top level leadership development programme, commissioning funding and training, a Diversity Creative Talent Fund and a commitment to taking on 20 BAME graduate trainee interns from the Creative Access programme; with the aim of combatting the issue and increasing on-air BAME portrayal from 10.4% to 15%.

Jason is currently commentating on the FIFA World Cup from Brazil for BBC Radio 5 live. He is due to co-commentate on the Italy v Costa Rica game this evening, Friday June 20th.
