Demi is a decorated defender playing for Newcastle United after a highly successful nine-year tenure at Manchester City, where she won multiple trophies. A prominent international, she earned a historic Euros title with the Lionesses and proudly represented Team GB at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Demi Stokes is a professional footballer who currently plays for Newcastle United Women, signing in 2024 after nine successful years at Manchester City. A highly experienced defender, she brings leadership and quality to Newcastle’s ambitious project, marking a homecoming to the North East.

Born in Birmingham and raised in South Shields, she began playing at Sunderland at the age of eight and made her senior debut at 16, helping the club win the Women’s FA Cup in 2009. At 18, she moved to the University of South Florida on a four-year scholarship, becoming a key player for the USF Bulls and also gaining experience with Vancouver Whitecaps in the Canadian summer league. During her time in the US, she earned her first senior England cap.

Internationally, Stokes progressed through England U19s, winning the 2009 UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship, before going on to feature at multiple major tournaments, including the Euros, World Cup, and UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 triumph. She has also represented Team GB, captaining the side to gold at the 2013 Summer Universiade and competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

At Manchester City (2015–2024), she made over 150 appearances and won multiple major honours, including the WSL title, FA Cups, and League Cups.

Outside football, Demi enjoys cooking, boxing, and family life with her son Harlen. She is also a Nike athlete and works with brands including Pampers UK and Prep Kitchen.
