Demi Stokes is a professional footballer who currently plays for Newcastle United Women, having signed for the club in 2024 after nine successful years at Manchester City. A highly experienced defender, Demi brings a wealth of talent and leadership to Newcastle’s ambitious project, marking an exciting homecoming to the North East.

Born in Birmingham but raised in South Shields, Demi began playing football at the age of eight with Sunderland FC. By 16, she had made her senior debut for the club, helping them secure a place in the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division and winning the Women’s FA Cup in 2009.

At 18, she moved to the United States on a four-year scholarship at the University of South Florida, becoming a key player for the USF Bulls soccer team. She also gained valuable experience playing in the Canadian summer league with Vancouver Whitecaps. During her final year at university, Demi earned her first senior England cap, marking the start of an illustrious international career.

Her international success began with England U19s, playing a crucial role in their triumph at the 2009 UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship in Belarus. She went on to represent the Lionesses at major tournaments, including the 2017 and 2019 UEFA Women's Euros, the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and the unforgettable 2022 UEFA Women’s Euros, where she helped England secure the historic title.

Demi has also proudly represented Team GB twice—captaining the squad to gold at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Russia and competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

During her time at Manchester City (2015–2024), she was a key part of their success, winning:

  • 3 FA Women’s Cups

  • 3 Continental League Cups

  • 1 Women’s Super League title

She reached her 150th City appearance during the 2020/21 season and remained a vital figure in the squad until her departure in 2024.

Outside of football, Demi enjoys cooking, watching boxing, and raising her son, Harlen. She is also a Nike Athlete and collaborates with brands such as Pampers UK and Prep Kitchen, using her platform to inspire and support families.
