Laura Bassett
Laura Bassett is a former professional footballer and England international, now a prominent voice in football broadcasting. With 63 caps for England, she represented her country at two FIFA Women’s World Cups—winning a bronze medal in 2015—and featured in three UEFA Women’s European Championships.
Since retiring in 2019, Laura has become a regular co-commentator and pundit across major broadcasters, including BBC Sport, Sky Sports, TNT Sports, and DAZN. She was part of the commentary teams for both the 2019 and 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cups, and continues to cover the Barclays Women's Super League, major tournaments, and international fixtures. Her expert analysis has also featured on 5Live Sport, The Women’s Football Show, BeIN Sports, and Arsenal TV.
Over a distinguished playing career, Laura represented top clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Birmingham City, Notts County, Leeds Carnegie, and Canberra United in Australia’s W-League. She captained Birmingham City during her first spell with the club and helped Leeds Carnegie lift the FA Women’s Premier League Cup in 2010.
Born in Bulkington, Laura began her journey at Bedworth Girls before joining Coventry City at age 14. While still at North Warwickshire and Hinckley College, she played in the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division. She later joined the FA Player Development Centre at Loughborough University, where she studied for a BSc in Sport & Exercise Sciences. She also spent a summer in the U.S. playing for New York Magic in the W-League.
Off the pitch, Laura is a qualified coach, holding a UEFA Level 3 coaching license, the FA Youth Award Module 1, and a Talent Identification Level 2 qualification. She sat out the 2018–19 season to give birth to her daughter Saede, and officially announced her retirement from playing in June 2019.
