Serena Guthrie MBE
Serena Guthrie MBE is a former England Netball captain and one of the most iconic figures in the sport. Over a 15-year career, she earned 110 international caps, representing the Vitality Roses at three Netball World Cups (2011, 2015, 2019) and two Commonwealth Games (2014, 2018), where she played a vital role in England’s historic gold medal win in 2018.
Known for her exceptional athleticism, energy, and leadership, Serena also enjoyed a successful domestic and international club career with Team Bath, Northern Mystics, and Giants Netball. Her honours include four Netball Super League titles with Team Bath (2007, 2009, 2010, 2013), a Suncorp Super Netball title with Giants Netball in 2018, and multiple international medals—bronze at the World Cup (2011, 2019), and gold and silver at the World Netball Series (2011, 2012).
Off the court, Serena has continued to make her mark. In 2022, she retired from playing after announcing her pregnancy and soon after became Performance Lead for Jersey Netball, where she also launched Youth Nets, a ten-week programme encouraging young people to get involved in the sport. She is the founder of Legacy Netball, a community-driven platform aimed at inspiring the next generation.
Serena is also a FlyHawk and Lucozade athlete, and was recently inducted into The Jersey Sport Hall of Fame in recognition of her outstanding contribution to netball.
Her media career continues to grow—she has featured as a BBC Sport pundit, offering expert insight and commentary during England international netball matches.
Away from netball, Serena is a dedicated mum, coffee lover, and music enthusiast. During the 2020 lockdown, she discovered a love for gardening, which she credits with supporting her mental wellbeing.
