Celebrating Football Foundation’s Spaces for Sport

The Football Foundation, Barclays and the football community got together at the House of Commons to celebrate the fantastic achievements the Spaces for Sports campaign has accomplished so far; Barclays community sports programme which is in partnership with The Foundation, has now developed over 200 sports sites around the UK.

With a panel made up of Dion Dublin, who is also an ambassador for The Foundation, Grant Manager Richard Williams, Community Champion Maria Calway-Kennedy and Pompey in the Community’s Louis Faith, guests were able to hear what the spaces have achieved, what the sites mean to the children and families in the communities and why it needs to continue to develop more sites around the country. Dion opened a site in Leicester where he used to play when he was younger, the difference being it was a carpark then and not a football pitch! On the night he said “If facilities we have now had been there when I was in Leicester so many more would have made it.”

The Football Foundation’s President Lord Pendry, Chairman Gary Hoffman and Barclays’ Konrad Kelling and Paulette Cohen were in attendance along with community champions to praise the partnership and the work the programme has done so far.
